April 2022 Newsletter + Track Meetings for GGN Members
Margery's Note....
Can we get too much information?
GGN Member Maxine Hepfer sent me an article (see below) that really resonated with how I’ve been feeling these past weeks…. Overloaded and unable to truly take in any more!
So much is happening in this world: war! poverty! challenges to democracy! authoritarian governments winning reelections! people still worried about getting Covid-19! tax season! and those are just SOME of what we are bombarded with everyday….
I’m finding it more and more important to keep simplifying and going inward, even though I have enjoyed the few times I’ve been out with people. But I don’t need to overdo that either!
-
I’ve been to the Arboretum and enjoyed the tulips and daffodils and seeing how many people are getting married among the beautiful flowers…I finally cut the cord and went to all streaming, both to save money and save my sanity!
-
I find I’m being much more particular about what I watch and less likely to turn on the TV just because it is there…My own daffodils are up and keep surprising me! I saw many green shoots but wasn’t sure the blooms would happen, until all of a sudden, here they are! I planted the kind that bloom weeks apart, so I hope to see more…
-
I’ve cleaned out more closets, drawers and found enough to give a big bag of perfectly good clothing items to Toni Portmann, who is collecting them to share with her Ukrainian friend that sends boxes to refugees in Poland each week. I love being able to give these people something, as they left their homes with nothing but the clothes they had on!!! (See more below)
- I have spruced up my yard, planted more things and am feeling like a better caretaker of what I have.
- These simple things are helping me stay grounded, focused on what I truly love to do, and give me a feeling of joy and happiness.
- I can’t save the world, and I can’t fix other people’s problems, but I can send love into the world and do a good job taking care of the things that are in front of me.
- My circuits don’t feel overloaded when I spend time with my son and my grandson, read books, and watch specific things on TV. I’m finding time to enjoy my friends, relax and just go with the flow.
- It feels really good to not get caught up in all the external drama.
And here are some of my daffodils!!!
Member Activities
Below are a few notes from our members….
GGN Member Maxine Hepfer shares an essay:
If you can’t take in anymore, there’s a reason
an essay on circuit breakers, empty buckets, and the shame-show of social media
by Nadia Bolz-Weber
It’s all too much
I used to live in a very old apartment building with super sketchy electrical wiring. Were I to audaciously assume my hair drier could run while my stereo was on, I would once again find myself opening the grey metal fuse box next to the refrigerator and flipping the breaker. My apartment had been built at a time when there were no electric hair driers, and the system shut down when modernity asked too much of it.
I think of that fuse box often these days, because friends, I just do not think our psyches were developed to hold, feel and respond to everything coming at them right now; every tragedy, injustice, sorrow and natural disaster happening to every human across the entire planet, in real time every minute of every day. The human heart and spirit were developed to be able to hold, feel and respond to any tragedy, injustice, sorrow or natural disaster that was happening IN OUR VILLAGE.
So my emotional circuit breaker keeps overloading because the hardware was built for an older time.
GGN Member Toni Portmann had an Oscar Party!
It was so much fun to get dressed up and go to a party!
PLUS! The wonderful dress that Toni is wearing was designed and made by a Ukrainian tailor that Toni is helping to collect clothes to send overseas.
As I noted above, Ukrainian refugees are walking away from their homes with the clothes on their backs. So this new friend of Toni’s is sending boxes of used clothing to Poland each week where 2 million refugees are trying to start their lives over.
Anything you can do to help will be greatly appreciated! Toni or I can come pick up the clothes if you can’t bring them to her. If you can, just email Toni at [email protected] and she will work with you to get the clothes to those who need them.
Track Meetings
For now we are meeting at my (Margery’s) house. We had members sign up for Zoom and not show up, so now it will be on request only. We still ask for $5 to cover costs. And yes, you can register at the last minute….
Our Track meetings are designed to give us a sacred space to have meaningful, purposeful conversations without fear of being judged or competed with. Only Members can attend. They are amazing experiences, unlike any ‘networking meeting’ you have ever attended!
GGN members MUST REGISTER to attend these meetings, so just follow the links below! And if you want to learn about us, go ahead and join GGN~~if you decide it isn’t for you, we will refund your membership fee!
Each one is an event or happening in itself. Some members come frequently, some come only once in a while. Whenever you attend one, you will find out things you didn’t know, connect with women who will challenge and inspire you, and you will leave with some new perspectives.
If you want to attend a meeting on Zoom, email me ([email protected]) and I’ll set it up for you.

Become a Member!
Great Girls Network is our way of being the opposite of the Good Ol’ Boys Network (which is still very much alive and well!). Even if you don’t participate in Track meetings, your membership gives you a way to support our existence and be a part of a growing group of women who really appreciate each other. And the Trii-Annual Gatherings are unlike any other “networking” event! We know women don’t network like men. We want to build relationships, we want deeper, more meaningful connections. That is exactly what GGN provides.
Our membership fee of $50 per year gives you access to our Track Meetings and also contributions to our Newsletter. The fee helps sustain our website, but it also ensures that when you participate in a Track meeting, you will honor the sacredness of the conversations because you are a member.
We created a digital card that helps people understand what they can get from joining GGN so click here to see the card.
Your membership helps give us that foundation, the strength to grow and have an impact on the lives of so many more women.
Great Girls Are Amazing Women!!! Thank You!!!
