September 2025 Newsletter + Track Meetings for GGN Members

Margery's Note

What does it mean to Fall Into Yourself?

Spending most of the last 3 months in my house recovering from ankle surgery gave me so much food for thought!

Accepting the situation was my only real choice.

I have spent so much of my life completing tasks, to do lists, working on how to keep everything going. I felt confident in my own self-sufficiency!

And all of a sudden my world stopped!

for the first month I needed a LOT of help

to fix food to eat

to manage pain

to get to follow-up appointments

and thank goodness my son and his fiancé were available and helped!!!

As I gradually started to learn how to walk again, I could do more and more, but it was definitely a journey and I felt vulnerable and challenged.

I read 40 books because TV wasn’t as fun as it used to be….

I was thrilled when someone came to visit for a little while….

And I did a lot of self-soothing to find ways to actually enjoy the process of healing

That’s where the idea of Falling Into Myself came from. I was alone so much of the time, I was the closest person to turn to for help, reassurance and companionship.

I found out I could be my own best friend and feel happy no matter what difficulty I was facing at the moment.

And that gave me a new kind of joy.

GGN Member Glenna Hecht has an announcement!

Hi,
On September 9, I’m launching a book that’s incredibly personal, and I’d be honored to have you be part of bringing it into the world.

The book is called How Old Are You Today? Dementia, A Mother, A Daughter, and The Game That Transformed Their Lives.

It was born out of years I spent trying to “fix” my mom after her dementia diagnosis—grasping at strategies, searching for answers, aching for connection.

And then, one day, I stumbled onto a simple question that opened the door:
“How old are you today?”

That question didn’t cure anything. But, it gave us something else — a way in. It brought us back to each other, even when so much felt lost.
It gave me hope.

This book isn’t a manual.
It’s a love story.
And it might just change the way others navigate dementia—with someone they love, and with themselves.

Here’s how you can help bring it into the world:

• Buy a copy at pre-order launch pricing. The Kindle version will be $2.99, and the paperback version $13.99 — my way of making it easy for people to say yes, early. (Pre-orders will open in the next few weeks, ahead of the September 9 launch.)

• Leave a short review or testimonial – just a few words about how the story moved you

• Share it with someone who might need it, or help spread the word

  • Bonus: I’m donating 30% of gross profits to Bementia and Alzheimer’s research. Your support doesn’t just launch a book–it helps fund hope.

If you’re in, email me at glenna@glennahecht.com, and I’ll follow up with next steps.

If this isn’t for you, no problem — you’ll be able to purchase the book after launch.

Thank you for considering it, and for being part of this journey.

With deep gratitude,
Glenna Hecht

The Jenga Effect: How One Change Can Shift Everything

Have you ever noticed that when you make one, even small change, other things begin to shift? It’s a little like the game Jenga – you carefully try to remove one piece without having the whole tower crash down.

A Spark from Atomic Habits

I recently began re-reading Atomic Habits by James Clear after subscribing to his weekly newsletter. In the first issue I received, there was a link about ‘forget setting goals’. Intrigued, of course, I clicked the link.

Reading the article, I was reminded of his principle that setting goals doesn’t equate to success. Our efforts, processes, and beliefs are what do that. His Identity Based Habits really stuck this time.

The Power of “I Am”
For example, if you want to lose 50 pounds, you might say:
• “I am a person who makes healthy choices.”

• “I am a person who works out at least 3 times per week.”

• And so on.

So, that’s where I began—actually using the first statement to get me started.

I like this approach for a couple of reasons:
• It starts with “I am”, which spiritually we’re taught is the secret name of God. Whatever we ask using those words has significantly more power because we’re invoking the power of God to support it.

• Our words have power – so if you say I want to lose 50 pounds, you’re focused on the 50 pounds. Our subconscious mind doesn’t always catch the nuances of how we speak. It takes us literally. That’s why we don’t affirm a negative like I want to stop eating sugar, because we’re still focused on sugar. Instead we affirm the opposite, like I eat more fruits.

The Jenga Effect in Action
My actual goal is to get healthy. So, I started with “I am a person who makes healthy choices.”

In my mind, I was thinking about food choices—but when 1 thing changes, other things change. Now I find myself making other healthy choices:
• I’ve gone to the fitness center at least twice per week (in the previous 6 months, I had probably only gone twice—total).

• I’ve spent time thinking of other ways that could happen: less wine, more fruits & veggies, less fat, more protein.

While I haven’t set “I am” statements for all of these, I am noticing that these thoughts are the unintended consequences of my one big Identity Based Habit.

It’s amazing what can happen when one thing changes—suddenly, other pieces in life start shifting into place.

Track Meetings

We still ask for $5 to cover costs. And yes, you can register at the last minute…. but it would be GREAT if you let us know a couple of days before so we can plan our refreshments!!!

Our Track meetings are designed to give us a sacred space to have meaningful, purposeful conversations without fear of being judged or competed with. Only Members can attend. They are amazing experiences, unlike any ‘networking meeting’ you have ever attended!

GGN members MUST REGISTER to attend these meetings, so just follow the links below! And if you want to learn about us, go ahead and join GGN~~if you decide it isn’t for you, we will refund your membership fee!
Currently we meet the 2nd Monday morning and 3rd Wednesday evening of each month (see below).

Each one is an event or happening in itself. Some members come frequently, some come only once in a while. Whenever you attend one, you will find out things you didn’t know, connect with women who will challenge and inspire you, and you will leave with some new perspectives.

Become a Member!

Great Girls Network is our way of being the opposite of the Good Ol’ Boys Network (which is still very much alive and well!). Even if you don’t participate in Track meetings, your membership gives you a way to support our existence and be a part of a growing group of women who really appreciate each other. And the Trii-Annual Gatherings are unlike any other “networking” event! We know women don’t network like men. We want to build relationships, we want deeper, more meaningful connections. That is exactly what GGN provides.

Our membership fee of $50 per year gives you access to our Track Meetings and also contributions to our Newsletter. The fee helps sustain our website, but it also ensures that when you participate in a Track meeting, you will honor the sacredness of the conversations because you are a member.

We created a digital card that helps people understand what they can get from joining GGN so click here to see the card.

Your membership helps give us that foundation, the strength to grow and have an impact on the lives of so many more women.

Great Girls Are Amazing Women!!! Thank You!!!
